We’ve seen many patients affected by Lectin toxicity(sensitivity). Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins that are resistant to breakdown by the body’s digestive enzymes. Eating them in excess or even in small amounts in susceptible people can contribute to a myriad of health problems. Lectins are a major contributor to increased intestinal permeability (“Leaky Gut”).
Many Lectins are toxic to the nervous system, immune system, hypercoagulation, and endocrine disruption.
High-lectin foods are following and should be avoided or greatly minimized in chronic cases.
· Meats and dairy that are not grass-fed, grass-finished
· Poultry that isn't pastured
· Farm-fed fish
· Beans that are not pressure cooked (an Instant Pot works well)
· Grains except sorghum and millet
· Squash/cucumber family, nightshades
· Nuts and Seeds- peanut, almond, cashews, sunflower, pumpkin, chia, etc.
